Our client, a global mining powerhouse, is seeking to engage an experienced Business Analyst. The Business Analyst will be responsible for moving demand through the demand pipeline – this includes the coordination of functional and technical requirements gathering that meets the business requirements for a specific business need/problem statement.
 
Estimations for feasibility and options analysis, feasibility, and execution of the relevant solutions. Duties include coordinating the methodical investigation, analysis, review, and documentation of all or part of the organization’s business, including its business intentions, services, processes, and information needs.
 
This is an initial 12-month contract with the potential to extend, based in Brisbane CBD with an excellent daily rate on offer.

Key responsibilities:

  • Investigate operational requirements, problems, and opportunities, seeking effective business solutions through improvements in automated and non-automated components of new or changed processes in order to achieve fit-for-purpose solutions
  • Works with stakeholders to identify potential benefits and available options for consideration and in defining acceptance tests
  • Analyze and design business processes
  • Develop graphical representations of business processes to facilitate understanding and decision-making in order to achieve fit-for-purpose solutions and accurate estimations
  • Assess the feasibility of business process changes and recommend new approaches
  • Facilitates open communication and discussion between stakeholders in order to ensure collaboration in requirements gathering, solution definition, and related estimates
  • Facilitates business decision-making processes
  • Captures and disseminates technical and business information
  • Defines scope and business priority-setting for change initiatives of small and medium-size and complexity, and may assist in larger-scale scoping exercises
  • Elicits and analyses requirements for fitness for purpose as well as adherence to business objectives and consistency, challenging positively as appropriate
  • Produces reliable cost estimates for the resources (labor, materials, equipment, and services) required to complete change initiatives based on scope, requirements, risk, and complexity
  • Obtains formal agreement by stakeholders and recipients to scope, requirements, and budget.

Skills and experience required:

  • Minimum 3 – 5 years experience in a business analyst role, preferably in a complex program/project environment working in cross-functional (and virtual)
  • Highly developed written and oral communication skills
  • Strong project management and reporting skills
  • Ability to work in complex organizational environments (ie matrix) and with remote teams
  • Ability to plan work to meet deadlines
  • Facilitation skills
  • A keen focus on minimizing the impacts that a technology project can have on the end-user experience
  • Ability to perform under pressure and manage multiple projects at one time
  • Good negotiation and influencing skills, and confidence to operate at all levels of the business
  • Customer focus and strong understanding of the business context
  • Be a self-starter and have an “ownership” mentality
Highly desirable:
  • Bachelor’s degree relevant to the project(s) of work
  • Resource / Heavy industry experience
  • Site-based experience or significant experience in collaborating with site-based stakeholders
  • Mining / Production Systems & Infrastructure Implementation experience
  • Certification or demonstrated experience with the BABOK framework
  • Good negotiation and influencing skills, and confidence to operate at all levels of the business
  • Experience as a Business Analysis in Agile teams or Agile Project Delivery
