Job Description
Duties include:
Labourer I
- Perform heavy manual work with the use of hand tools
- Operate light delivery vehicles transporting materials and supplies and direct traffic during street construction projects
- Load and unload materials from trucks
- Collect refuse in parks, playgrounds, and streets; cut, clear and burn brush; dig holes and trenches
- Manually sweep and apply traction aids to sidewalks and refill sand dispensers
- Perform general housekeeping duties on yard sites
- Remove snow around bridges, sidewalks, stairways, and approaches, and sand slippery sidewalks and crosswalks
- Assist in the painting of street lines and crosswalks and the maintenance of wooden sidewalks, steps, fences, and guardrails
- Assist tradespeople in general building maintenance and construction
- Manually/Mechanically sweep sand and debris off of sidewalks, boulevards, pork chops, etc.
- Perform other related duties as required
Truck Driver III
- Deliver people, materials, equipment, or parts to field crews, load and move equipment between work sites, and pick up parts and materials from vendors, warehouses, and/or City stockyards
- Load and unload materials manually and/or with the assistance of a power tailgate or forklift
- Perform routine maintenance duties, such as cleaning the truck box and worksite and performing routine maintenance of vehicles and equipment
- Operate and care for tandem or single-axle sand/plow while engaged in snow and ice control
- Be aware of obstacles adjacent to the road to avoid damage to Public Property when operating the plow, including snow off the wing
- Inform the lead hand of any on-the-road issues with equipment or observed accident or property damage
- Perform other duties related to snow and ice control
Qualifications:
- Completion of Grade 10
- Current and valid Alberta Class 3 Driver’s Licence with Air Brake Endorsement (or provincial equivalent)
- Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver’s Permit is a requirement for this position
- Ability to operate assigned equipment in a safe manner, including detecting minor defects in equipment as needed
- The ability to work a 12 hours rotating shift is required
- Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions
- Physical ability and manual dexterity to perform heavy manual labor, including lifting up to 50 lbs, for extended periods of time, in various environmental and weather conditions is required
- Compliance with the City of Edmonton’s safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is a requirement for this position
- Standard First Aid Certification

Assets:
- Experience in operating tandem or single axle sander/plow
- Experience in mechanical walk clearing
- Experience in hand work, including snow clearing
