Under general supervision, creates basic to moderately complex designs of electric master system plans, power systems, protection, and generation models, facility power systems, sustainability/renewable energy systems, and other similar electrical systems.
Performs studies of power systems and electrical calculations for electrical systems, lighting simulations, lighting layouts, communications, fire alarms, security, and other similar calculations. of basic complexity to meet client project requirements.
Makes selections and defines specifications of electrical components including motor control centers, switchgear, transformers, etc. Reviews draft designs for compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Ensures that firm policies and practices are followed on all designs. Performs site reviews and studies, as needed, to ensure designs are aligned with location specifications. Updates design requirements as necessary. Contributes to the firm’s TKM by developing white papers and technical design documentation of new or special case designs, studies, etc.
Submits technical papers and designs for publishing to technical journals. Performs other duties as required. May create or work with a team to create a poster or other presentation material for a conference.
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, or Electrical Technology or related discipline. 1 year of related experience. Domestic and/or international travel may be required.
The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
Skills and Abilities
Intermediate Knowledge of computer-assisted design and drafting (CADD) 3D and 4D software and practices. Knowledge of engineering principles of design. Expert Knowledge of Microsoft business software (excel, word, etc.). Good written and verbal communication skills.

If this position is subject to a background check for any convictions related to its responsibilities and requirements, employment will be contingent upon the successful completion of a background investigation including criminal history.
A criminal history will not automatically disqualify a candidate. In addition, during employment individuals may be required by CDM Smith or a CDM Smith client to successfully complete additional background checks, including motor vehicle records as well as drug testing.
