About the Role:

Global Toronto’s news department is seeking a permanent part-time ENG Digital Technician. Reporting to the Assignment Editor, the successful candidate will be responsible for shooting and editing coverage of local news, sports, and community events for all platforms. You would be a member of the Global News team which produces local newscasts 7 days a week and provide a continuous flow of content to GlobalNews.ca. Applicants should be aware that all shifts are possible, including early mornings, days, evenings, and weekends, and overtime may be requested from time to time. This is a bargaining unit Group 4 position.

You’ll be working on things like:

The following is an outline of some but not all of the primary functions and responsibilities for this position:

  • Expertly operate an ENG Camera
  • Shoot, light, and transmit recorded video and live hits via a variety of technologies including microwave, Dejero, FTP, cell phone
  • Edit videos and stories using non-linear software both in the newsroom and in the field
  • Shoot and upload photos and videos for GlobalNews.ca and various social media channels
  • Ingest video to network servers for use across all Global stations
  • Be a strong advocate and mentor for digital content and audience-first workflow
  • Work with reporters, digital journalists, producers, and other editorial team members to create best-in-class story executions
  • Help support the Global News community profile when participating in news-gathering events
  • Put stories to air, shoot lives, and edit full packages
  • Source, confirm, and post a compelling user-generated video
  • Assignments could include but are not limited to ENG camera, graphics, editing, and Technical Producing
  • Assignments will include days, evenings, weekends, mornings, and travel as required
  • Responsible for safely operating and maintaining a company vehicle
  • Must represent Global Television in a professional and courteous manner
  • Perform other duties as required.

If you have the following…we want to hear from you!

  • Post-secondary education in broadcast or related field
  • Experience with ENG Camera, non-linear editing, field lighting, working in a newsroom environment, and editing full packages
  • Experience in updating online and broadcast content with a content management system
  • Ability to troubleshoot cameras and live equipment in the field
  • Good news sense and up-to-date on current events and sports
  • Familiarity with Edius, Grass Valley, and Open Media is considered an asset
  • A valid G driver’s license with a clear driving record
  • Strong computer and social media skills
  • Decisive even under pressure and able to prioritize and meet multiple daily deadlines
  • Willing and able to adapt to rapidly changing technology and workflows
  • Exemplary work ethic and punctuality
  • Cooperative teamwork skills, and an ability to work independently
