The Mustard Seed is seeking a motivated, experienced, flexible, Client-focused Counsellor to work as part of our incredible team. This position involves working as part of a multi-disciplinary team on a recovery transitional housing program. The program will be based on a sober recovery model, with intakes taking place on a rolling basis.
The program will focus on building skills, understanding trauma, and social connection, and developing relapse prevention strategies. This will be coupled with transitional housing supports, which will focus on building recovery capital in multiple areas such as skills for independent living, financial literacy, and employment.
And the connection to long-term/post-program community-based supports such as mental and physical health, ongoing recovery program, social and recreation programs, cultural supports, and others.
The Clinical Social Worker will work with clients who have complex mental, physical, and social health needs. The ideal candidate will have experience in effective counseling, group facilitation, communication, presentation, and computer skills.
With skill, compassion, and professionalism, in conjunction with our trauma-based program, the counselor will provide psychotherapy that empowers clients to change their lives.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Facilitate individual, couples, family, or process-style group sessions for diverse Clients, including Clients with concurrent disorders.
- Provides individual case management and counseling to Clients. This includes information gathering, assessment, case planning, case conferencing, monitoring of Client activities, strategic intervention, evaluation, referral, safety/recovery planning, discharge, follow-up, and crisis management.
- Ensure proper documentation and management of Client files. This includes observing, recording, and reporting on Client progress and challenges, documenting and distributing critical incidents according to policy.
- Completing various forms and documents required for accountability and accreditation purposes, writing case notes, ensuring the proper release of information records are in place, and protecting the confidentiality of Client records.
- Requests/Facilitates case consultations with relevant members of the team to ensure effective assessment, treatment/safety planning, and intervention.
- Attends team meetings and contributes actively to a positive and supportive team environment.
- Participates in ongoing learning and supervision of students.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Master’s degree in social work
- Minimum of 2 years experience working in mental health counseling or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, as a clinical social worker and is currently registered, in good standing, with the Professional Regulatory Body
- Experience in program development preferred
- Previous experience working with children, youth, and/or families
- Previous experience working with clients experiencing poverty, food & housing insecurity, substance abuse, and the impacts of trauma as an asset
- Prior clinical experience providing individual and group therapy.
- Knowledge and skill in treatment planning, and group facilitation.
- Familiarity working in the areas of trauma, substance abuse, and mental health.
- Patient-focused orientation and commitment to providing quality services
- Self-motivated and self-directed with a demonstrated ability to work with minimum supervision in a fast-paced, dynamic environment that requires flexibility and balancing of competing priorities
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, including the ability to exercise independent judgment
- Strong relationship-building and collaboration skills
- Ability to function effectively as a member of an interprofessional team
- Strong multi-tasking, prioritization, time management, and organizational skills, with high attention to details
- Positive, professional attitude
- Proficient with computers and technology; EMR experience preferred
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Time in excess of regular working hours may be required on occasion.
- Local travel to various Mustard Seed sites, client residencies, and external agencies will potentially be required.
